Start with a weapon you want to learn
Use an Item Box to change weapons, then visit the Training Area. Practice drawing and sheathing your weapon, basic attacks and dodging before worrying about an endgame build. The Training Area lets you try compatible ammo, coatings, phials and consumables without using up your stock.
Each of the 14 weapon types has its own controls. Check Game Controls and Hunter’s Notes for the weapon you have equipped.
Prepare, hunt, forge
- Accept an available Low Rank Village Quest in Kamura. Read the objective before leaving: gathering and hunting quests have different goals.
- Eat Bunny Dango at the Canteen, check your items and equip the gear you intend to use.
- Complete the objective. If you use a melee weapon, restore dull sharpness with a Whetstone.
- After the quest, visit the Smithy to check newly available weapons and armor. Follow the branch you want and gather any missing materials at the correct quest rank.
Village or Gathering Hub?
Village Quests are solo quests and make a useful learning route. Use the Gathering Hub when you want to play with friends or continue Hub progression. Being in the same village lobby does not turn a Village Quest into a multiplayer quest.
If a weapon-tree node is still marked with question marks, continue your current progression and obtain new monster materials. You do not need to craft every unrelated branch.
When does Sunbreak begin?
The expansion requires Sunbreak ownership and completion of the Hub 7★ quest Serpent Goddess of Thunder. Finishing the Village story alone does not open the expansion.
